I was most pleased to receive the following today, actually had tears in my eyes just reading it!
If you ever have any doubt about the importance of what we do, this should help erase that! Our efforts, the efforts of all of Gillian's fans have obviously made a tremendous difference to Gilbert and to Buskaid.
Great work all - I hope you all feel very proud of yourself!!
(ps - "Rosemary" is Rosemary Nalden, director of Buskaid; "Sonja" is the Buskaid Administrator in South Africa)

You rock as our leader..........Like you I had tears in my eyes while reading Gilbert's letter. My emotions were stirred not just the gratitude he expressed but, also the reality that in many ways we live in a cold world where people seem to not care as much as they have in the past about those that are less fortunate; let alone people from a totally different culture. This appeal was not for some tradegy that took place but rather it was a call for a proactive response for something positive..........
I for one am extremely PROUD of the response from the G.A.G.C. COMMUNITY as well as from those who donnated via the UK board.......It feels good to be part of a giving and generous community........

WooooHooo,Nicole---bravo to you and to all those generous people who
donated to Buskaid to help Gilbert.This is a tremendous letter---and the
money sent in for his school fees is obviously making a difference in his
life---so that he can eventually go out and make a difference for others.
Glad to know that the terrific people here at GAGC have made part of that
distinction happen for him,so I'd like to say---good on all of you and on
Gilbert for making full use of the opportunity that he's got to get some ex-
cellent music training.Additionally,this situation indirectly reminds me of
something that my favorite contemporary poet,Maya Angelou has said,
and it's very simple---"each one,teach one"---and I can see Gilbert's doing
just that in future years,along with becoming a fine musician in his own
right---and I'd love to hear him play sometime.It's terrific to know that
the very kind souls here helped to get the ball rolling for him---and I'm
sure that we'll all be interested in how he's doing with his life,and especi-
ally his music training as time goes by. |
