Anyway, this is for those who are planning to register here. A good decision as it gives you posting privileges (unless Nic revokes them... she keeps doing that. Very cruel admin, I tell ya!), the glorious right to right-click, and the opportunity to see the tons of hidden folders with incredibly secret material only available to registered users.... (*sees Nic's glare* ... What? Those advertising people lie all the time. Why can't we? Angel

) You are also able to use the search function once you are a registered user.

Um.... anyway for those who are thinking about usernames, passwords and fake e-mail addresses .... please read the following:

When registering....

Please choose a username which does not contain special characters such as "<" and ">"! It might look really nice when your name is decorated, but our database will hate you forever. It might go so far as to withhold PM-notification etc.

Also think about having to type in the username again and again (you cannot always rely on auto-login). So, usernames like "cRP+K<<n*2Hq>*dI" can get a bit tiring. - Believe me, I know what I'm talking about. I dream of dots sometimes.....
When choosing a password, I would appreciate if you didn't use anything that is easily guessable. We are a Gillian-Anderson-related board.... So passwords associated with that or with the X-Files or something like that belong to "easily guessable". I'd bet I could guess the passwords of at least a third of the members here.

Your passwords are not retrievable. Even admins will not be able to tell you your password if you forgot. So try to remember it! In case you forget, you will need to request a new one.
You are asked for an e-mail address when you register. Please make sure this e-mail address is valid. We are not asking for an e-mail address for the fun of it. An e-mail with an activation link will be sent to this address. If you fail to provide a valid e-mail, your account will NOT be activated! Therefore also be careful not to make a typo.
So you registered, but never got your activation e-mail? In some cases, e-mail spam filters think the Board E-mails are Spam. Make sure to check your junk mail folder, too. If the e-mail is filtered, make sure you put e-mails from GAGC.net on your whitelist!
Should you still have trouble registering for whatever reason, please send an e-mail to gagcomm (AT) hotmail (DOT) com
After you registered, you will at first not be able to post in the forum. An admin will have to approve those privileges first. It might take a day for that. While you wait, you can always send Private Messages and you can read the forum. If more than two days have passed since your registration and you are still not allowed to post, please contact an admin (best is to use the above E-mail address)!

Signatures
There are some guidelines for image signatures: Sigs can only include images no bigger than 400(width) X 200(height) px. Furthermore, there cannot be more than 3 images in your sig line.

There is also a restriction for the number of characters in your signature line. This is to avoid having signatures which are taking up more room than all the posts on a page together. The limit for characters in a signature line is currently 400. This includes all bbcode tags you are using for your images, color or text style
For security reasons, html tags are not valid in this forum. The same holds true for filetypes such as Flash (.swf). If you would like to post images in your signature line or the post itself, you will need to use gif, jpg or jpeg and png files. Image files such as .bmp will NOT show up as pictures. Please also see Niki's topic for more general hints and tips.
Avatars
Avatars can be selected in the Profile Control Panel (look for "Profile" in the menu above!)
You may choose an avatar from our extensive avatar gallery. In addition to that, there's an upload tool which you can use to upload your own avatar to the forum. For security reasons, the upload feature for avatars might be disabled for new users.

No matter which way you use to get your own avatar, there are size restrictions: The avatar can be no more than 60 X 60 px and 6KB. Images bigger than that will not be displayed within the forum.
